$26.62-$36 per hour About the Opportunity We are representing a client operating within the advanced manufacturing sector, with a focus on metal additive manufacturing for highly engineered applications across aerospace, rocketry, defense, and motorsport. The organization combines metal 3D printing with high-precision CNC machining to manufacture complex, high-performance components. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to support their machining and post-processing operations. Role Overview The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC machining equipment used to finish and post-process additively manufactured metal components. This position would suit a technically strong machinist who is comfortable working with complex geometries, tight tolerances, multi-axis equipment, and demanding quality requirements. Experience within aerospace or another high-precision manufacturing environment would be highly advantageous. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and multi-axis machining equipment. Machine and finish metal components produced through additive manufacturing. Review engineering drawings, 3D models, and aerospace specifications to establish machining requirements. Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs to improve accuracy, efficiency, and production output. Select appropriate tooling, cutting conditions, workholding methods, and machining strategies. Use CAD/CAM platforms to develop and refine CNC toolpaths. Inspect components using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMMs. Apply GD&T requirements when evaluating component dimensions and tolerances. Carry out secondary machining and finishing operations, including EDM where required. Investigate machining issues such as chatter, tool degradation, thermal movement, and dimensional variation. Prepare and maintain setup sheets, machining documentation, process instructions, and control plans. Maintain tooling, fixtures, and machinery and assist with troubleshooting when required. Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality personnel to establish stable and repeatable processes. Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives. Follow all applicable safety procedures and quality requirements. Technical Expertise The client is particularly interested in candidates with experience in some or all of the following areas:
CNC bandsaw and waterjet cutting, including large-format and thick-section material. 5-
Axis Machining:
Experience with 5-axis equipment, U-axis configurations, and sophisticated toolpath development.
Turning & Mill-Turn:
Experience with VTLs and large mill-turn machines, including multi-turret and B-axis configurations.
EDM & Precision Machining:
Wire EDM, sinker EDM, and machining of additively manufactured components. Candidate Requirements Demonstrable experience programming and operating CNC milling and turning equipment. Strong understanding of GD&T and technical drawing interpretation. Experience using CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks. Competent with precision inspection equipment, including CMMs, micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges. Experience in aerospace, defense, or another high-tolerance manufacturing environment is preferred. Exposure to metal additive manufacturing and associated post-processing would be beneficial. Strong mechanical and machining knowledge. Comfortable using hand tools and power tools; welding experience is beneficial. Forklift experience or certification would be an advantage but is not essential.
