We are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer/Manufacturing Engineer to take ownership of the entire machining process from programming and setup to troubleshooting, optimization, inspection, and production. This is not a standard CNC Machinist role. You'll work in a highly technical machine shop environment where you'll be responsible for prototype machining by creating and refining machining processes, developing programs, making setup decisions, and machining precision parts from concept through completion. This role is ideal for a machinist or engineer who enjoys prototype machining and building parts from scratch, solving problems, and running their machine as if it were their own operation.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Program, set up, operate, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC machining equipment. Work with a variety of CNC platforms ranging from 3-axis through 7-axis machines, including turning, milling, EDM, and multi-axis CNC Machines. Develop and modify CNC programs using G&M Code and CAM programming software. Create and perform full machining processes for new and existing products, often producing prototype, first-run, and developmental components. Select tooling, fixtures, cutting parameters, and machining strategies to maximize efficiency and part quality. Own the complete manufacturing process from setup through inspection and final production approval. Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues while implementing permanent process improvements. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and technical specifications. Inspect finished components using calipers, micrometers, comparators, and other precision measuring equipment. Maintain CNC programs, setup documentation, tooling information, and process records. Analyze machine performance, productivity, and utilization data to identify improvement opportunities. Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to improve manufacturing capabilities. Train operators and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, throughput, and machine efficiency.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of CNC machining, CNC programming, manufacturing engineering, or advanced setup experience. Strong knowledge of CNC programming using G&M Code as well as CAM Programming. Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes, mills, EDM equipment, and multi-axis machining centers. Experience with 3-axis, 4-axis, 5-axis, and advanced multi-axis machining platforms up to 7-axis CNC Machines. Swiss machining and Swiss-style lathe experience is highly preferred. Experience with prototype machining, process development, or low-volume/high-mix manufacturing. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SPC, and continuous improvement methodologies. Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF, FMEA, Control Plans, and PPAP documentation. Experience developing standard work instructions and machining documentation. Ability to independently troubleshoot machining processes, tooling, and programs. Experience with reading, writing, and editing CAM software and CNC controls. Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills. Experience using precision measuring tools and quality gages to verify part quality. Clean, climate controlled machine shop.
