HM Manufacturing Position Summary HM Manufacturing is seeking an experienced CNC Level III Lathe Programmer / Setup Machinist to join our growing precision machining team. This position is responsible for programming, setting up, troubleshooting, and operating CNC lathes while ensuring parts meet customer specifications, quality requirements, and production deadlines. The ideal candidate will possess advanced machining knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and extensive experience with Mastercam programming, CNC turning operations, tooling selection, and process optimization. ⸻ Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program CNC lathes using Mastercam software. Create and modify CNC programs to improve efficiency and reduce cycle times. Set up CNC lathes independently from blueprints and CAD models. Select tooling, fixtures, and workholding methods appropriate for each job. Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary program or setup adjustments. Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, customer specifications, and engineering drawings. Calculate feeds, speeds, cutting depths, and machining sequences. Troubleshoot machining, tooling, quality, and production issues. Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments. Verify part conformity to print specifications and quality standards. Train and mentor Level I and Level II machinists. Collaborate with engineering and quality departments to improve manufacturing processes. Maintain accurate setup sheets, tooling documentation, and program revisions. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and cost reduction. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. ⸻ Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years CNC lathe setup experience. Minimum 3 years CNC programming experience using Mastercam. Ability to independently program, setup, and run complex production and prototype jobs.
Strong understanding of:
G-Code and M-Code programming Tooling selection Workholding methods Feeds and speeds optimization Material machining characteristics Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T. Experience using precision inspection equipment including: Micrometers Calipers Bore gauges Thread gauges Height gauges Indicators Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. ⸻ Preferred Qualifications Experience with aerospace, defense, medical, or high-precision manufacturing.
Experience machining:
Steel Stainless steels Aluminum Tool steels Experience with multi-axis turning centers. Experience with live tooling and Y-axis machining. Familiarity with AS9100 quality requirements. CAD experience using SolidWorks or similar software. ⸻ Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to frequently bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions. Ability to safely operate manufacturing equipment and inspection tools. ⸻ CNC Level III Competencies A successful Level III Machinist demonstrates: Advanced Mastercam programming capabilities. Independent setup and operation of CNC lathes. Strong GD&T interpretation skills. Ability to optimize tooling and cycle times. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues without assistance. Capability to train and mentor less experienced machinists. Consistent production of high-quality parts with minimal scrap or rework.
