The right person is comfortable solving problems independently, understands how parts actually need to be manufactured, and can adapt when every project is a little different from the last. Responsibilities Create and modify CAD drawings and 3D models for production Develop CAM programs and toolpaths for CNC routers and mills Determine appropriate tooling, workholding, feeds, speeds and machining strategies Set up and operate CNC equipment when needed Review drawings, dimensions and specifications before releasing work to production Troubleshoot programming and machining problems Work closely with fabrication and production employees to determine the best way to manufacture component Help improve machining processes, organization and efficiency Maintain a high level of dimensional accuracy and attention to detail Assist in other areas of our custom fabrication shop when projects require it Skills Strong CAD/CAM programming experience Experience programming CNC routers and/or CNC mills Ability to work from drawings, CAD files, sketches and customer-supplied models Ability to visualize and problem-solve complex 2D and 3D components Strong understanding of machining fundamentals and manufacturing processes Comfortable working with plastics, composites, MDF, aluminum and other light metals Experience with custom or low-volume manufacturing is strongly preferred Fusion 360, BobCAD, CadKey experience is a plus. CNC router experience is strongly preferred What Matters at Machine-Star Because our work is custom, we're looking for more than someone who knows which buttons to push.
You should be someone who:
Pays close attention to detail Takes ownership of projects Asks questions rather than making assumptions Communicates when there is a problem or a deadline may be affected Can prioritize multiple projects in a fast-moving environment Enjoys figuring out how to build things that may never have been built before Is willing to occasionally help outside the machining department when the shop needs it High attention to detail is essential for this position. Machine-Star offers an opportunity to work on an unusually wide range of projects in a small, hands-on manufacturing environment. If you enjoy CAD/CAM programming but don't want to spend every day programming the same family of parts, this could be a very good fit. Machine-Star is an equal opportunity employer.
