Job Description

Our client is a manufacturer of architectural millwork with decades of experience providing custom cabinetry, countertops, and other millwork solutions to both residential and commercial clients. They support projects from engineering through fabrication and rely on strong technical execution to deliver quality work that meets project specifications.
Job Summary:
The CNC Programmer / Engineer converts approved shop drawings and project documentation into accurate manufacturing information for production. This role engineers projects for fabrication, prepares material requirements, generates CNC programs, and supports the shop throughout the manufacturing process to ensure projects are produced accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with AWI standards and project specifications. The ideal candidate takes ownership of assigned projects from engineering through fabrication and stays engaged to resolve manufacturing questions and improve constructability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Review and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and contract documents Engineer commercial millwork projects for efficient shop fabrication while maintaining compliance with project specifications and AWI standards Generate detailed cut lists, machining information, and CNC programs for production Create and release manufacturing work orders for shop production Perform material take-offs and determine purchasing quantities based on sheet yield, nesting efficiency, and project requirements Prepare purchase requisitions/orders for production materials Coordinate fabrication requirements with purchasing, project management, and production teams Provide technical support to shop personnel throughout fabrication and respond to engineering/programming questions Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and revise CNC programs or engineering details as needed Maintain organized project files and documentation Conduct occasional field visits to verify existing conditions, review measurements, and confirm engineered solutions align with site conditions Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize CNC programming
Requirements:
3+ years of experience in commercial architectural millwork in a programming, engineering, drafting, manufacturing, or related technical role Experience programming CNC machinery using commercial woodworking software Extensive knowledge of commercial architectural millwork construction methods Thorough understanding of AWI Quality Standards, architectural specifications, and industry best practices Strong understanding of commercial millwork materials including plastic laminate, hardwood veneer, solid surface, MDF, plywood, particleboard, hardwood lumber, and edge banding systems Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, finish schedules, specifications, elevations, sections, and details Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills High level of organization and attention to detail Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with office and production personnel Experience with Mozaik, Microvellum, Cabinet Vision, AlphaCAM, WoodWOP, BiesseWorks, Maestro, or similar software preferred Experience with nesting optimization preferred
