CNC Programmer and Operator Job Description This role focuses on fully programming and machining parts from raw material to finished component using offline CAM software and CNC equipment. You will interpret blueprints, create 2D and 3D toolpaths in WorkNC, and operate Haas and Fadal machines with Fanuc and Heidenhain controls. The position combines offline programming, machine setup, and on-machine program optimization to support aerospace and automotive manufacturing projects. Responsibilities Program CNC machines offline using WorkNC to create accurate 2D and 3D toolpaths based on engineering blueprints. Machine parts from a raw block of material through to finished components, ensuring dimensional accuracy and surface quality. Set up 3-axis and 5-axis mills and 3-axis lathes, including installing and aligning fixtures, workholding, and tooling. Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, and machining strategies for various materials and part geometries. Load, transfer, and plug offline programs into CNC machines and verify correct program selection before running. Operate Haas and Fadal CNC machinery equipped with Fanuc and Heidenhain controllers to produce precision parts. Edit and optimize CNC programs directly at the machine as needed to improve quality, efficiency, and cycle times. Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining operations, tolerances, and critical features. Perform in-process checks and inspections to confirm parts meet specifications and make adjustments when required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following established shop practices and procedures. Essential Skills Proven experience with 2D and 3D offline CNC programming in WorkNC. Hands-on experience in 3-axis mill machining, including setup, operation, and process optimization. Strong ability to set up machining processes, including fixture setup and tooling selection. Demonstrated capability to machine a part starting from a raw block of material and a blueprint through to a finished component. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. Experience operating CNC mills and lathes, including 3-axis and 5-axis equipment. Ability to edit CNC programs at the machine to resolve issues and refine machining processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with WorkNC and Heidenhain controllers is highly preferred. Familiarity with Fanuc controls on CNC equipment. Experience as a machinist with hands-on CNC machining and setup experience. Experience working on aerospace and automotive components is beneficial. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
