Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented 5-Axis CNC Programmer proficient in Siemens NX CAM to develop, optimize, and validate CNC programs for complex, high-precision machined parts. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience programming simultaneous 5-axis milling operations, strong knowledge of machining strategies, and the ability to collaborate with engineering, quality, and shop floor teams to ensure efficient, accurate, and repeatable production. Responsibilities Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs using Siemens NX CAM for 3-axis, 4-axis, and simultaneous 5-axis milling operations. Interpret 3D models, engineering drawings, GD&T, and CAD data to program complex geometries (turbine blades, impellers, aerospace structures, molds, dies, etc., as applicable). Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, fixturing, and work-holding strategies to maximize efficiency and part quality. Perform toolpath verification and simulation (collision detection, gouge checking, machine kinematics simulation) prior to shop floor deployment. Post-process programs using appropriate post-processors for specific 5-axis machine tools (e.g., DMG Mori, Mazak, Hermle, Okuma, Makino, etc.). Set up and prove out new programs on the shop floor; troubleshoot and revise programs to resolve cutting, tolerance, or cycle-time issues. Optimize existing programs to reduce cycle time, tool wear, and scrap rates. Collaborate with design/manufacturing engineers on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback.
Maintain accurate documentation:
setup sheets, tool lists, work instructions, and program revision records. Work closely with machine operators and quality inspectors to resolve in-process issues and ensure first-article inspection compliance. Stay current with NX CAM software updates, post-processor development, and 5-axis machining best practices. Qualifications 3+ years of hands-on experience programming CNC machines using Siemens NX CAM (version 10 or later preferred). Proven experience programming simultaneous 5-axis toolpaths (not just 3+2 positional machining). Strong understanding of CNC machining principles, cutting tool technology, and materials (aluminum, titanium, Inconel, steel, composites, etc. as applicable). Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D CAD models (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks). Must be able to create and customize post-processors for 5-axis machine tools within NX Post Builder (not just apply existing posts). Must have the ability to create posts for probing cycles within Siemens NX (e.g., Renishaw, Blum) for part setup verification, in-process inspection, and tool measurement. Familiarity with CNC controls (Siemens, Fanuc, Heidenhain, or similar). Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in aerospace, defense, mold & die, or precision machining industries. Experience with CMM programming/inspection reports and closed-loop feedback for program corrections. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices. Physical Requirements Ability to work on the shop floor as needed for program prove outs (standing, walking, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs). Ability to use PPE as required (safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.).
