Job Summary Job Title:
CNC Programmer Job Description This CNC Programmer role is responsible for processing non-standard items for multiple production teams in the plant. You will create detailed documentation and setup sheets, program CNC machines, prove out programs, and ensure that unique and non-standard parts are processed safely, accurately, and efficiently. Responsibilities Evaluate, design, and document fixture setups and CNC programs for unique parts and weldments, ensuring they meet production and quality requirements. Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs to achieve accurate, safe, and efficient machining parameters. Prove out new and revised CNC programs on the shop floor, validating dimensional accuracy, cycle times, and process reliability. Assess CNC programs for accuracy, safety, quality, and efficiency, making adjustments as needed to improve performance. Perform routine inspections on CNC equipment to verify proper operation and identify potential issues early. Assist with preventive maintenance activities, including lubrication, coolant monitoring, filter changes, and maintaining machine cleanliness. Monitor machine performance during operation, identify abnormal conditions or potential failures, and promptly communicate necessary repairs to maintenance or engineering teams. Maintain accurate documentation of program prove-outs, fixture setups, troubleshooting actions, maintenance tasks, and training activities. Support process improvement initiatives by recommending and implementing changes that reduce recurring issues and optimize machine performance. Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve machining and programming issues and to support continuous improvement. Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics to ensure correct part setup, tooling selection, and machining strategy. Qualifications 2+ years of broad experience in CNC programming, CNC machining, CNC setup, or CNC maintenance support. Strong CNC programming skills, including experience with G-code and program logic. Proficiency in CNC machining operations, including CNC mills and general CNC machining practices. Experience using Mastercam or similar CAM software for CNC programming. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and machine manuals. Strong knowledge of CNC operations, tooling, machining principles, and process optimization. Ability to troubleshoot CNC controls and mechanical systems to resolve operational and programming issues. Experience proving out CNC programs or supporting manufacturing engineering activities. Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs or CMMS systems. Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Effective teamwork skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a production environment. Ideal Qualifications Two-year Machining Technology degree preferred. Experience with CNC mills and CNC machining in a production environment. Experience in supporting process improvements and corrective actions in manufacturing. Comfort working with documentation related to setups, programs, maintenance, and training. Ability to adapt to different non-standard parts and changing production needs.
