Job Description
Key Duties/Programming Responsibilities:
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for CNC program creation, proofing, and implementation. This position will support plant-wide Lean efforts, using real-time creativity and frugality to remove waste and improve NC programs, tools, and equipment.
Responsibilities include:
Responsible for quality parts produced on CNC machines, such as but not limited to, lathes and milling machines
Maintain at all times the highest levels of Accuracy and Quality in all machining operations
Interprets drawings or specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
3, 4, & 5 axis programming of milling and routing machines (strong focus on 5-axis programming)
Hands-on set-up and program verification on all machines
Supports design and fabrication of all necessary CNC holding fixtures
Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to insure quality of production. Reports all machine malfunctions to immediate supervisor.
Lead/coordinate the training activities of all machine operators
Assist engineers with product tool designs and participate in waste reduction and manufacturing process improvements
Knowledge:
Strong understanding of CNC machines, operations, and languages
Understand operations and setup of manual lathes and mills
Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, TPM, and visual factory with a focus on waste reduction
Experience interpreting engineering drawings, with a solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T per
ASME Y14.5M
)
Extensive knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators and scales.
Extensive knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.
Skills:
Proficient programming with Mastercam
Experience using CATIA V5, SolidWorks, or UG desirable
Experience using Vericut or other proofing software desirable
Extensive experience machining composite and metallic materials
Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division for the purpose calculating material fabrication.
Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job

Additional Position Requirements:
(education, certifications, physical) High School or GED Equivalent Required
Minimum of 15 years relevant machining and programming experience
Able to work extended hours, as required, and be able to lift tools and assemblies weighing up to 50 lbs.
Must have good eyesight or prescription glasses to read small print on engineering drawings and blueprints
Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules.
