Our trailers are built for demanding applications and require high-quality coatings that protect against wear, corrosion, and harsh operating conditions. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Heavy-Duty Liquid Painter with strong knowledge of industrial coatings, primers, and paint mixing for trucks and heavy-haul trailers. This position requires hands-on experience painting large equipment and an understanding of proper surface preparation, material selection, and application techniques. Key Responsibilities Surface Preparation Prepare trailer and truck surfaces by sanding, grinding, cleaning, masking, and degreasing Inspect steel and aluminum surfaces for defects prior to coating Ensure proper surface profile for primer and topcoat adhesion Paint Mixing & Material Knowledge Mix paints, primers, and hardeners according to manufacturer specifications Understand and apply correct ratios for: Epoxy primers Urethane primers Industrial and automotive topcoats Single-stage and multi-stage paint systems Adjust viscosity, reducers, and catalysts based on temperature and humidity Maintain accurate batch mixing and material usage records Painting & Application Spray liquid paint and primer on: Heavy-haul trailers Truck frames and components Axles, decks, goosenecks, and fabricated assemblies Apply coatings evenly to achieve proper mil thickness and finish quality Identify and correct defects such as runs, fisheyes, orange peel, or dry spray Perform touch-ups and final detailing as required Equipment & Booth Maintenance Operate and maintain spray guns, pumps, hoses, and paint booths Clean and maintain painting equipment after use Follow proper storage and handling procedures for paints and chemicals Safety & Quality Control Follow OSHA and shop safety procedures Properly use PPE including respirators and protective gear Ensure finished products meet Rackley Trailers' quality standards and customer specifications Required Skills & Experience 5+ years of experience painting heavy-duty equipment, trailers, or trucks Strong knowledge of: Paint and primer mixing Industrial and automotive coatings Spray gun setup and adjustment Ability to read paint technical data sheets (TDS) and safety data sheets (SDS) Experience working with steel and aluminum substrates Preferred Qualifications Experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment Familiarity with corrosion-resistant coatings Attention to detail and pride in finished product Ability to work independently and as part of a production team Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50-75 lbs Comfortable working around large trailers and equipment
