Job Summary

An aircraft painter prepares aircraft surfaces for paint by cleaning, stripping, and sanding them, then applies primers and topcoats using specialized equipment like spray guns to protect the aircraft from corrosion and meet aesthetic or branding requirements. Key duties include following technical specifications and safety regulations, inspecting finished work, and documenting all processes. A high school diploma, experience in painting, and strong attention to detail are typically required.

Surface preparation:

Cleaning, stripping, sanding, and masking aircraft surfaces to prepare them for painting.

Painting:

Mixing and applying primers, sealants, and topcoats using specialized equipment such as HVLP (high volume, low pressure) spray guns.

Quality control: Inspecting the finished product for defects and ensuring adhesion and a flawless finish.

Documentation:

Maintaining records of work performed, including paint usage and process details.

Compliance:

Adhering to strict FAA and environmental regulations, including proper disposal of hazardous materials.

Design and branding: Following blueprints, paint schematics, and design specifications to ensure accuracy, especially for airline branding.

Maintenance:

Performing touch-ups and repairs as part of routine maintenance or refurbishment projects.
