Position Summary The Metal Prep Painter is responsible for final surface finishing of custom-built ambulances. This role ensures painted, polished, and finished surfaces meet high-quality standards prior to delivery. The technician performs paint correction, buffing, polishing, and cosmetic touch-up work on aluminum, stainless steel, Formica, and painted components to achieve a professional, customer-ready appearance. Key Responsibilities Perform paint touch-ups on completed ambulance units, including correction of minor scratches, chips, blemishes, and surface imperfections Buff, polish, and compound painted surfaces to achieve a high-gloss, uniform finish Wet sand and feather paint as needed to blend repairs seamlessly Inspect finished units for cosmetic defects and ensure compliance with quality standards Coordinate with Paint, detail, and Quality teams to resolve finish-related issues Properly mask, protect, and clean surrounding surfaces during touch-up work Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area Follow all safety, PPE, and environmental procedures related to paints, chemicals, and equipment Document rework or touch-up tasks as required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent 1-3 years of experience in paint finishing, automotive detailing, polishing, or similar surface-finishing work Experience with buffing tools, polishers, compounds, and sanding equipment Familiarity with automotive or industrial paint systems preferred Ability to identify cosmetic defects and apply corrective techniques Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship Ability to work independently and as part of a team Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Ability to work around paint fumes, solvents, and polishing compounds with appropriate PPE Preferred Experience (Not Required) Experience in ambulance, emergency vehicle, RV, automotive, marine, or aerospace manufacturing Knowledge of aluminum and stainless steel finishing Experience working in a high-mix, custom manufacturing environment Contingencies of Employment Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and physical examination Successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, if applicable to the position Equal Opportunity Employer Life Line is an equal opportunity employer.
