Position Summary The Casket Painter / Top Coater is responsible for preparing, painting, finishing, and inspecting caskets to ensure they meet JM Hutton's quality standards. This position plays a critical role in delivering an attractive, durable finished product while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. Essential Responsibilities Prepare metal surfaces by sanding, repairing, cleaning, masking, and inspecting prior to painting. Apply primers, base coats, top coats, and clear finishes using approved painting techniques and equipment. Inspect painted products to ensure quality, color consistency, finish, and appearance meet company standards. Perform touch-up work and repairs as needed. Safely operate paint booths, spray equipment, and other production equipment. Complete routine preventive maintenance and cleaning of painting equipment. Package and stage finished products for shipping. Maintain accurate production and quality records as required. Follow all company safety procedures, environmental guidelines, and quality standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area using good housekeeping practices. Work cooperatively with supervisors and team members to meet daily production goals. Work overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as needed to meet production demands. Qualifications Required Must be at least 18 years of age. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Willingness to learn new skills and perform a variety of production tasks. Preferred Two or more years of manufacturing or industrial experience. Experience with industrial spray painting, metal finishing, powder coating, or automotive painting. Experience sanding, repairing, and preparing metal surfaces. Previous casket manufacturing or finishing experience is a plus, but not required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and climb throughout an 8-hour shift, with overtime up to 12 hours when required. Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; heavier items require team lifting or mechanical assistance. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, paint fumes, and varying temperatures. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, gloves, and other required safety equipment.
