Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Industrial Painter/ Blaster is responsible for the execution of steel shot, glass bead, and sand blast operations to clean and apply blast profiles, and for preparing and painting fabricated products produced at Brilex to specification. The position also supports detailing, general shop labor, and material handling as needed.MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Blasting- Operate the blast booth and portable sand blast equipment to perform steel shot, glass bead, and sand blast operations that clean and apply blast profiles to fabrications
- Monitor and adjust blast media within the blast booth
- Mask off fabrications where required to protect machined surfaces
- Handle and maintain blast hoses, nozzles, and related blast equipment Painting
- Prime fabrications for paint using primers and related prep materials; grind, chip, and use cutoff wheels as necessary
- Tape and mask surfaces and assist the taping and painting department as needed
- Mix paint and solvents and set up equipment for the job
- Read and interpret routers and prints for blasting and painting specifications General Labor and Shop Support
- Detail jobs after completion in the fab shop and machine shop
- Prepare fabrications for material movement and assist in loading and unloading of freight using overhead cranes and fork trucks per shop traveler
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience in industrial blasting and/or painting
- Prior experience operating blast equipment, or willingness to train on Brilex shot and sand blast equipment
- Previous experience using airless sprayers and pressure pot
- Ability to handle large fabrications using overhead cranes and rigging
- Ability to read and follow shop travelers, routers, and prints
- Consistently organized in daily work activities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) certification
- Prior shot or sand blast experience
- Prior experience in an industrial or fab shop environment
- Detailing experience
- Familiarity with minor mechanical assembly tools and fab shop burning torches Essential Mental Functions Needed
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret job traveler, shop routers, and blueprints Essential Physical Functions Needed
- Climb and work from ladders and stairs
- Alternately stand, squat, stoop, and kneel throughout the work day; work from a kneeling or laying position when required
- Work from a standing position for extended periods of time
- Handle blast equipment hoses for extended periods of time
- Frequently lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to take and pass a vision acuity test
- Wear proper protective gear including full face respirator or air hood, blast hood / supplied-air respirator, Tyvek suit, and steel toed safety boots/shoes
