Painter Helper . Job Description This role supports a busy powder coating and paint operation that finishes custom-engineered electrical cabinets and fabricated sheet metal components. You will work in and around a paint booth, assisting with industrial painting, powder coating, and general production tasks to ensure high-quality finishes that meet precise specifications. . Responsibilities Assist with painting, powder coating, and spraying fabricated sheet metal parts for electrical cabinets in and adjacent to the paint booth. Help mix and apply paint according to specified ratios and technical requirements. Support blasting, sandblasting, and surface preparation activities to ensure parts are properly prepped for coating. Move materials and parts throughout the shop, including loading and unloading items for painting and coating processes. Perform general labor tasks as needed, including sanding, masking, cleaning, and basic assembly work. Test paint and coatings for appropriate thickness (mileage) and adhesion to confirm they meet quality standards. Use spray guns and other coating equipment safely and efficiently to apply industrial paint and powder coatings. Work collaboratively with machine operators, fabricators, quality control staff, and material handlers to maintain smooth production flow. Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to shop guidelines. Maintain a clean, organized work area within a fast-paced production environment. . Essential Skills At least 1 year of industrial painting experience in a manufacturing or production environment. Hands-on experience assisting with painting, blasting, and prepping parts for industrial coatings. Background in manufacturing; comfortable working in a busy production shop (non-refinery). Ability to perform paint prep tasks such as sanding, masking, and cleaning surfaces. Experience using spray guns and working in or around a paint booth. Familiarity with industrial paint application, including spray painting and powder coating processes. Willingness to perform general labor duties in addition to painting-related tasks. Ability to test and verify coating thickness and adhesion, including calculating mileage. Comfort working with different epoxies and industrial coating materials. Work Environment The role is based in a medium-sized, very clean and organized shop that is one of several production facilities. The environment is non-climate controlled with open bay doors and multiple fans, creating a busy, fast-paced atmosphere typical of a high-volume production shop. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses. Night shift typically runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m ., and day shift runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It is extremely common to work 50-60 hours per week, and it is very rare to work only 40 hours, offering frequent overtime opportunities. . . . . . . . . . . Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
