The ideal candidate has experience with HVAC controls, electrical, low-voltage systems, HVAC, or a related construction trade and is comfortable completing installation work independently. This is an installation-focused role—not a programming or commissioning position—with opportunities to learn additional controls skills and grow into a Controls Technician role. Key Responsibilities Install sensors, controllers, actuators, relays, thermostats, and other HVAC control devices. Pull, route, label, and terminate low-voltage control wiring. Install and wire control panels and related components. Read and follow control drawings, wiring diagrams, and construction plans. Properly identify and label control points, wiring, and equipment. Perform basic point-to-point checks and verify installations are complete and properly wired. Troubleshoot basic installation and wiring issues and communicate more complex issues to the Controls Technician or Project Manager. Coordinate installation activities with HVAC, electrical, and other trades. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas. Follow project specifications, company standards, and jobsite safety requirements. Qualifications 1-2 years of experience in HVAC controls, electrical, low-voltage, HVAC, or a related construction trade preferred. Working knowledge of HVAC controls, electrical, or low-voltage systems. Ability to install and terminate low-voltage control wiring. Ability to read and understand basic control drawings, wiring diagrams, and construction plans. Comfortable using hand and power tools. Strong attention to detail and ability to complete installation work accurately. Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the Controls Technician and Project Manager. Reliable transportation and dependable attendance. Willingness to learn and develop additional controls skills. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous building automation or DDC installation experience is a plus. Candidates do not need to be experienced Controls Technicians or programmers. We are looking for someone with a relevant foundation who is willing to learn and grow. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and work with hand tools for extended periods. Ability to work from ladders and lifts and in varying jobsite conditions. Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment as required for the position. Why Join Five Star Mechanical? Five Star Mechanical is a locally owned mechanical contractor serving commercial and industrial customers throughout the region. We value quality workmanship, teamwork, dependability, and developing our people. This is an opportunity to build a career in the growing building automation and controls industry while learning from experienced professionals.
