Job Title:
Second Shift Automation Maintenance Technician Job Description This second-shift Automation Maintenance Technician role provides advanced technical support for the installation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automated and electronic equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Working under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor, you will independently handle complex projects involving mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotic, and PLC systems while supporting new equipment launches, retrofits, and preventive maintenance initiatives to minimize downtime and improve reliability. Responsibilities Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical, mechanical, and robotic systems to keep production equipment operating safely and efficiently. Diagnose and resolve issues with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial robots, including modifying and creating PLC and HMI programs. Adjust robot paths and configure vision systems to support production quality and throughput. Support the launch of new equipment and retrofits, ensuring proper installation, integration, and functionality of automated systems. Perform preventive maintenance tasks using CMMS software and recommend improvements to maintenance procedures and schedules. Interpret electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic schematics to identify root causes and implement effective repairs. Respond quickly to production issues, prioritize work orders, and minimize downtime across automated production lines. Collaborate closely with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to communicate equipment status and coordinate repairs. Apply strong mechanical skills to service and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems associated with automated equipment. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, safety, and performance. Document maintenance activities, updates to programs, and equipment changes in the CMMS and other required systems. Provide technical guidance and informal leadership to peers and operators when troubleshooting complex automation and control issues. Essential Skills Associate's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience, such as a journeyman card plus approximately 5 years of relevant work. Proficiency with PLC systems, including PLC programming and PLC troubleshooting in an industrial environment. Hands-on experience with industrial robotics, including robot troubleshooting and path adjustments; ABB robots preferred. Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with hydraulics and pneumatics. Solid electrical troubleshooting skills, including working with electronic components and reading electrical schematics. Experience supporting automation and controls in a manufacturing or industrial setting. Ability to perform and improve preventive maintenance using CMMS software. Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Demonstrated leadership abilities in guiding others during complex troubleshooting and repair activities. Ability to work independently on complex technical tasks with minimal supervision. English language proficiency. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are preferred. Experience in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment. Familiarity with HMIs and vision systems used in automated production lines. Experience in automation, controls, or electronics maintenance. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment focused on continuous learning and skills growth in PLC and robotic troubleshooting. Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on root cause analysis and long-term corrective actions. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and production demands. Work Environment This position is based in an automotive manufacturing facility on the second shift, typically from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The role involves working around automated production lines, robotics, PLC-controlled equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and other industrial machinery. You can expect to work approximately 45-55 hours per week, with some weekend work as needed based on production demands, with the goal of reducing overtime and weekend work as the team grows. The environment is fast paced and hands-on, requiring frequent movement on the production floor, interaction with machinery, and collaboration with production, engineering, and maintenance teams. Standard industrial safety practices apply, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment as required by plant policies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Holland, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
