Position Overview The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician is responsible for the startup, commissioning support, checkout, and troubleshooting of Building Automation Systems following installation. This is a hands-on, field-based role suited for a mid-level technician who can independently perform system startup activities, validate field devices, and resolve BAS and HVAC controls issues with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities System Checkout & Startup Perform point-to-point checkout of BAS devices and control points. Verify proper device operation, communications, addressing, and signal integrity. Identify installation deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with project teams. Bring systems online according to approved sequences and project documentation. Programming & Functional Testing Load controller programs, databases, and firmware provided by engineering teams. Conduct functional testing and verify system sequences. Make field-level adjustments within established standards and project requirements. Support commissioning activities and functional performance testing. Troubleshooting & Diagnostics Diagnose and resolve building automation and controls-related issues. Perform root cause analysis and recommend long-term corrective actions. Assist with preventive maintenance strategies and service planning. Project Coordination & Documentation Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients. Support project documentation, as-built drawings, and system operation manuals. Provide technical guidance to junior technicians and facility personnel. Continuous Improvement Stay informed on emerging BAS technologies and industry best practices. Recommend automation and system enhancements to improve performance and efficiency. Qualifications Technical Skills Knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and mechanical equipment. Understanding of plans, specifications, and construction documentation. Experience with BAS programming and configuration. Familiarity with Modbus, BACnet, Ethernet/IP, or similar industrial communication protocols. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Education & Experience 2+ years of experience in the Building Automation or Controls industry. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field preferred. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
