Job Description

Controls EngineerPosition Overview We are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, commission and support building automation and HVAC control systems. The role focuses on delivering reliable, energy-efficient BAS solutions through system design, DDC programming, field commissioning and ongoing troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Niagara AX/Niagara 4, Johnson Controls and Distech Controls platforms and a strong understanding of HVAC controls, communication protocols and industry best practices.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, program and configure building automation systems (BAS) and DDC controllers for HVAC and related building systems.

Develop, test and deploy control strategies using Niagara AX/Niagara 4, Johnson Controls, Distech Controls and other BAS platforms.

Perform site commissioning, startup, testing and functional performance verification of control systems.

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, network and control logic issues in the field and remotely.

Create and maintain control point lists, system documentation, wiring diagrams and as-built drawings.

Integrate third-party equipment and systems using industry protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, etc.).Support energy optimization initiatives through control sequence improvements and data analysis.

Collaborate with project managers, mechanical engineers, electricians and clients to ensure project requirements are met on time and on budget.

Provide technical support and training to service technicians, facility staff and end users.

Participate in continuous improvement efforts, standardization of control sequences and development of best practices.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent experience.3+ years of hands-on experience designing, programming and commissioning building automation/HVAC control systems.

Proven experience with Niagara AX and Niagara 4 platforms; familiarity with station development, logic writing and alarm management.

Experience with Johnson Controls, Distech Controls or similar BAS vendors and toolsets.

Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control sequences, sensors, actuators and mechanical drawings.

Proficiency with BACnet, Modbus and other BAS communication protocols and network fundamentals.

Experience with controller programming, ladder logic or graphical programming tools and version control.

Ability to perform field work including wiring, sensor calibration, and on-site commissioning; valid drivers license.

Excellent problem-solving, verbal and written communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Relevant certifications a plus (e.g., NICET, CxA, Tridium Niagara Certification, Johnson Controls certifications).
