Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Controls Technician to support the build-out and commissioning of automated robotic welding cells. In this role, you will build industrial control panels from schematics, wire and integrate cell equipment, and support power-up and commissioning of complete systems. Your work will directly determine build quality, schedule, and safe cell operation. This is a hands-on opportunity to build cutting-edge robotic automation from bare enclosure to running cell. Responsibilities Build industrial control panels from electrical schematics and layout drawings: mount backplane components, cut and populate DIN rail and wireway, and complete point-to-point wiring with proper terminations, ferrules, and wire labels. Wire and integrate PLCs, remote I/O, servo and VFD drives, motor starters, power supplies, and safety relays across 480 VAC three-phase power distribution and 24 VDC control circuits. Read and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams accurately, and redline drawings as built. Wire cell field devices, including sensors, pneumatic valve banks, operator stations, and safety devices such as e-stops, interlocked guarding, and light curtains.
Perform pre-power checkout:
continuity and point-to-point verification, insulation checks, torque verification, and controlled first power-up.
Support commissioning:
I/O checkout against the PLC program, sensor and drive setup, EtherNet/IP device configuration, and troubleshooting alongside controls engineers and robot integrators. Diagnose electrical faults using multimeters and standard test instruments, and drive issues to root cause rather than symptom fixes. Follow electrical safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and arc-flash practices, during all build and commissioning activities. Skills Strong knowledge of industrial control panel construction to UL 508A-style workmanship standards, including neat routing, segregation of power and signal wiring, and proper grounding and bonding. Ability to read electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams accurately and work from them with minimal supervision. Experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell platforms (CompactLogix/GuardLogix PLCs, PanelView HMIs, PowerFlex drives) and EtherNet/IP networks preferred. Proficiency troubleshooting control circuits with multimeters and standard electrical diagnostic tools. Working knowledge of machine safety circuits: safety relays and safety PLCs, e-stop chains, guard interlocks, and light curtains. Mechanical aptitude for panel fabrication and cell assembly, including drilling and tapping, cable management, and pneumatic plumbing. Familiarity with electrical safety standards for industrial environments, including lockout/tagout, and a habit of following them without being asked. Reliable, detail-driven workmanship — wiring that passes inspection the first time and documentation that matches what was built.
