- 10pm
- 6:30am Sunday (PM)
- Friday (AM) Responsible for performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment and first-level support for controls troubleshooting in a food manufacturing environment.
The role focuses on equipment reliability, safe execution, food safety compliance, and minimizing downtime through quick, accurate response and routine maintenance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance (PM & PdM) on production and utility equipment
- Respond to urgent and routine corrective maintenance needs to minimize equipment downtime.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and basic controls systems, including: motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatics, actuators, and automated/robotic systems.
- Electrical components such as wiring, cords, plugs, contactors, overloads, switches, disconnects, fuses, relays, breakers, sensors, and limit/photo/proximity switches.
- Assist in replacing or installing electrical components, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and PLC processors.
- Use PLC software (e.g., Allen-Bradley) for first-level diagnostics (e.g., checking fault codes, I/O status, HMI interface)—no programming or code changes permitted.
- Collaborate with Controls Engineers for advanced troubleshooting and programming tasks.
- Maintain observation-only access to controls tools, respecting all boundaries related to programming, logic changes, and
SCADA/MES
systems.
- Accurately complete and close work orders in the CMMS, documenting all work performed for internal tracking and compliance (e.g., OSHA, USDA, BRC).
- Maintain and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Support a clean, safe, and efficient workspace by adhering to LOTO, arc flash safety, GMP, and all plant safety protocols.
- Work in cold environments, including freezers, as well as at elevated heights or in confined spaces, while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Work collaboratively with team members to support troubleshooting and drive continuous improvement.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience (6+ years preferred for senior-level candidates), ideally in food manufacturing or other regulated environments.
- Industrial Maintenance Certification, 3+ year apprenticeship, or associate degree in a related technical field preferred.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and steam systems.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing 480V 3-phase systems, including motors, drives, and controls.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLC systems for diagnostic use (no programming required).
- Experience using and interpreting CMMS tools, electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and ladder logic diagrams.
- Proficient in the use of electrical test tools such as digital multimeters, ammeters, and megohmmeters.
- Solid understanding of process control instrumentation including photo eyes, retroreflective, diffuse, laser, and proximity sensors.
- Ability to comprehend and apply technical data, wiring diagrams, schematics, and verbal instructions.
- Comfortable working in cold, hot, elevated, and confined environments while wearing proper PPE.
- Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools; capable of accurately bending and installing conduit.
- Familiarity with National Electric Code, LOTO procedures, and arc flash safety practices.
OSHA 10/30
certification, state electrical license, or journeyman credentials are a plus.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills required.
