Job Overview:
Are you passionate about troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing electrical systems? We are seeking an Electrical Controls Technician I to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of pipeline and compressor station facilities. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals with a strong foundation in electrical and control systems who are eager to build their technical expertise in an industrial environment. As part of your professional development, you will also have the opportunity to gain operational competencies and progress toward becoming a Level I Station Operator, broadening your understanding of both technical maintenance and station operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain electrical systems and equipment, including switchgear, motors, generators, pumps, and fans. Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair DC electrical systems and components, including batteries, chargers, rectifiers, and inverters. Maintain station and unit-level electrical control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and control networks. Service and troubleshoot field instrumentation and control devices, including motor controls, pressure transmitters, pressure switches, temperature sensors, limit switches, solenoids, and actuators. Maintain critical safety systems, including emergency shutdown (ESD) panels, gas detectors, flame detectors, and manual activation switches. Assist with work planning activities and provide budget-related information to support annual planning processes. Ensure the safe and compliant operation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of compressor station systems, including: Air systems and air dryers Fuel systems Cooling systems Gas compression equipment Prime movers Other equipment required to maintain uninterrupted gas delivery Perform station maintenance activities, including environmental compliance tasks, wastewater documentation, gas loss reporting, daily inspections, and operational support. Provide support and oversight for station activities as required, including extended operational coverage and weekend support. Recognize and respond appropriately to abnormal operating conditions while maintaining accurate documentation and reports in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. Adhere to all safety policies, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Limited to some directly related experience in electrical, instrumentation, or industrial environments. Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain driving privileges.
Preferred:
Associate degree or diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline. Relevant industrial maintenance, controls, or instrumentation experience. Demonstrated interest in learning and advancing within electrical controls and station operations.
Working Conditions:
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. Must reside within 30 miles of the assigned reporting location. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, shifts, on-call rotations, standby assignments, and overnight travel as required. Ability to support operational requirements that may involve extended coverage schedules. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in electrical controls and station operations.
Physical Requirements:
The position requires the ability to perform a variety of physical activities, including: Balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crawling. Climbing ladders, stairs, and equipment structures. Carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling objects up to 45 pounds. Reaching above shoulder level and performing repetitive motions. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Visual ability to read screens, interpret color coding, and review detailed documentation. Ability to meet hearing requirements necessary for a safe industrial work environment.
