ACCESS CONTROL TECHNICIAN

Genesis Cabling Solutions, LLC Position Summary Genesis Cabling Solutions is seeking an experienced Access Control Technician to install, terminate, program, test, commission, and troubleshoot commercial access control systems. This is a hands-on technical position requiring experience with complete access control systems, including cabling, field devices, control panels, power supplies, electrified locking hardware, system programming, and troubleshooting. The technician must be capable of performing assigned installations with minimal supervision and taking an access-controlled opening from installation through successful operation. Requires travel throughout Texas and surrounding states. Travel assignments are typically two weeks or less but may occasionally require longer stays based on project needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, route, dress, terminate, test, and label access control cabling.
• Install card readers, keypads, door contacts, request-to-exit (REX) devices, motion sensors, electric strikes, magnetic locks, and other access control devices.
• Install and terminate access control panels, controllers, interface modules, relays, power supplies, and associated equipment.
• Install, wire, and terminate electrified door hardware and field devices according to drawings, approved submittals, and manufacturer specifications.
• Program and configure access control systems, including doors, readers, inputs, outputs, access levels, schedules, and related system functions.
• Configure controllers and perform basic network configuration, including IP addressing and connectivity.
• Test and commission complete access-controlled openings, verifying proper operation of readers, credentials, locks, door contacts, REX devices, alarms, and associated equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose access control system problems including cabling, field devices, locking hardware, panels/controllers, power supplies, communications, network connectivity, and system programming.
• Identify the source of system failures and perform necessary repairs, corrections, or programming changes to restore proper system operation.
• Use multimeters and other testing equipment to diagnose electrical and communication problems.
• Understand and work with low-voltage power, relays, NO/NC circuits, inputs, outputs, supervised circuits, fail-safe and fail-secure applications, OSDP, Wiegand, and RS-485.
• Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, door schedules, submittals, and manufacturer documentation.
• Maintain proper cable, device, and panel labeling and accurate redlines and installation documentation.
• Complete punch-list corrections and assist with final system turnover.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Lead Technicians, electricians, door hardware contractors, customer IT personnel, and other trades as required.
• Follow Genesis Cabling Solutions' safety, quality, and installation standards.
• Maintain a professional appearance and communicate appropriately with customers, contractors, and other project personnel.
• Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on commercial access control experience, or demonstrated equivalent experience performing the full scope of the position.
• Demonstrated ability to independently install, terminate, program, configure, commission, and troubleshoot commercial access control systems and associated equipment.
• Working knowledge of low-voltage electrical principles and proper use of a multimeter.
• Basic understanding of IP networking as it relates to access control systems.
• Ability to read construction drawings, security drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality with the ability to report to assigned jobsites as scheduled.
• Must be willing and able to travel throughout Texas and surrounding states, including overnight travel.
• Must be flexible with work schedules and available to work overtime, nights, or weekends when required by project schedules.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record as required for company vehicle operation.

Preferred Experience Experience programming and commissioning one or more commercial access control platforms is strongly preferred. Candidates should be prepared to identify the access control systems they have personally installed, terminated, programmed, commissioned, and troubleshot. Manufacturer certifications and formal access control training are a plus but do not substitute for demonstrated hands-on experience. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform work involving ladders, lifts, above-ceiling spaces, bending, kneeling, standing, and other physical activities typical of commercial low-voltage construction. Safety Requirements Employees must comply with all Genesis Cabling Solutions safety requirements and project-specific safety requirements. Required training may include OSHA-10, Aerial Lift, Fall Protection, Defensive Driving, CPR, and other training applicable to the employee's duties. Important Qualification Standard This is not a cable-pulling-only or device-installation-only position. Candidates must have experience beyond pulling cable and mounting devices. The Access Control Technician must be capable of completing panel terminations, programming systems, commissioning complete door operations, and independently diagnosing and troubleshooting access control system problems through successful resolution.
