Southern Colorado Dental Academy is a newly established dental assisting school located within a modern, state-of-the-art facility, affiliated with Smile Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry. While our dental practice specializes in pediatric and orthodontic care, the Academy trains students in general dental assisting to prepare them for a variety of dental careers. We are a close-knit, passionate team dedicated to education and excellence in dental care. We're seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented Dental Assisting Instructor with the drive and leadership skills to grow into the Director role at our Academy.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a knowledgeable and inspiring Dental Assisting Instructor to lead classroom instruction, hands-on lab sessions, and student mentorship. This is a full-time role that offers the unique opportunity to develop into the Director of the Academy, helping shape the program and its future direction. Key Responsibilities Teach and facilitate engaging lectures and hands-on labs focused on dental assisting techniques, infection control, dental anatomy, radiology, chairside assisting, and more. Supervise and support students during clinical sessions and skills training. Assess student performance through exams, skills checklists, and evaluations. Develop, update, and improve curriculum and course materials. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and competencies. Provide mentorship and guidance to students throughout their education. Participate in faculty meetings, school planning, and program development. Support compliance with educational and accreditation standards. Qualifications Previous experience as a Dental Assistant (minimum 3 years preferred). Prior teaching or training experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge of dental materials, specialties, radiography, sterilization, and chairside procedures. Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Comfortable with computers and educational technology platforms. Energetic, positive attitude with a passion for teaching and helping students succeed. Must be eligible to obtain or currently hold your CDA through DANB (or be willing to pursue this). Leadership potential and interest in transitioning into a Director role over time.
