1-3 afternoons a week. We train you. Griot Academy has run after-school chess, coding and robotics programs for 20 years, in public and private schools across DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia. Our students are Pre-K through 8th grade. What you'd do You take one small group for a full session, usually 7-10 weeks. You teach from our curriculum — chess fundamentals, Scratch coding or hands-on robotics — run the room and keep the kids engaged. Because it's the same group every week, you watch them go from learning how the knight moves to playing a real game. That's the part our coaches stay for. We give you the curriculum, the materials and the training. You don't walk in cold and you don't build lessons from scratch. Who this fits You don't need a teaching degree. You don't need a chess rating. People who do well in this role include:

  • College and graduate students, especially education, STEM and engineering majors
  • Current and retired teachers
  • Chess players and coaches
  • Tutors, mentors, camp counselors, youth and sports coaches
  • Anyone who wants meaningful part-time work in the afternoons What matters is that you enjoy kids, you can hold a room's attention, and you show up. The details
