Custom Frame Builder / Workshop Associate (Part-Time) Hands-On Workshop Position | Opportunity for Growth This is a hands-on workshop position for someone who enjoys working with tools, equipment, and physical materials. Most of your time will be spent in our workshop building custom picture frames—not sitting at a retail counter. This position begins part-time at 20-25 hours per week, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role based on performance, business needs, and mutual fit.
Schedule:
Primarily Monday-Wednesday, during our regular business hours
Pay:
$18-$26 per hour, depending on experience and skill level. Candidates with strong professional hands-on experience may qualify toward the higher end of the range. About Art & Frame Depot Art & Frame Depot is a family-owned custom framing shop that has proudly served Montgomery County for nearly 20 years. We specialize in museum-quality custom framing for artwork, photography, memorabilia, jerseys, diplomas, shadowboxes, and other meaningful keepsakes. Every frame is built in-house. Our customers trust us with valuable artwork and cherished memories, and we take great pride in producing work that is precise, durable, and beautifully crafted. About the Position The primary focus of this role is building custom picture frames using professional framing equipment. You will spend most of your time measuring, cutting, joining, and assembling frame moulding, as well as mounting artwork and completing final assembly. This is not a traditional retail sales position. There is some customer interaction, but the majority of your time will be spent doing skilled, hands-on workshop work. We are looking for someone with proven hands-on experience who is comfortable working with tools, equipment, and physical materials. Previous framing experience is a plus, but not required. We are willing to train the right individual. Experience in woodworking, carpentry, fabrication, manufacturing, mechanical work, or similar hands-on fields can transfer very well to this position. Primary Responsibilities Measure, cut, and join custom picture frame moulding Learn to operate professional framing equipment, including saws, joiners, and other specialized tools Assemble custom picture frames with precision and attention to detail Handle artwork carefully and professionally Mount artwork and complete final assembly Inspect finished work for quality, accuracy, and clean craftsmanship Package completed orders for customer pickup Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop Assist with customer pickups and occasional front-counter support Our Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who: Has strong hands-on experience working with tools, equipment, or physical materials Is comfortable measuring accurately and working with precision Enjoys building, assembling, repairing, or fabricating things Has good mechanical aptitude and can learn new equipment and techniques Takes pride in producing clean, high-quality work Has excellent attention to detail Can work independently while also being a dependable member of a small team Is reliable, punctual, and eager to learn Is comfortable working in a workshop environment Can safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods Experience That Transfers Well Professional hands-on experience is strongly preferred. Experience in the following areas is especially valuable: Custom picture framing Woodworking Carpentry Cabinet making Furniture building or restoration Manufacturing or production Skilled mechanical repair Candidates without professional experience may still be considered if they can demonstrate substantial hands-on experience and a high level of familiarity with tools and equipment. Pay:
