Use your motor winding expertise to build, repair, and improve a wide variety of electric motors. A&B Foundry, Machining, and Fabrications is seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Motor Winding Technician to support new motor builds, repairs, and rewinding. Our work includes brushed and brushless motors and stators approximately 1 inch to 12 inches in diameter , using both hand and machine winding methods. We need someone who can take ownership of winding work, troubleshoot technical problems, develop repeatable processes, and help train others. This is an opportunity for a skilled winder who enjoys varied projects and working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams. Responsibilities Perform hand and machine winding for new motor and stator builds, repairs, and rewinding projects. Inspect existing windings and accurately document winding data before removal, including wire size, turn count, winding pattern, and connections. Read and interpret drawings, winding diagrams, connection diagrams, and technical specifications. Prepare cores, slots, insulation, and materials for winding; identify damage requiring further evaluation. Set up winding equipment, fixtures, tooling, and tension controls for different motor sizes and winding requirements. Maintain accurate turn counts, winding direction, wire placement, and lead identification. Strip, terminate, solder, insulate, and secure winding leads and connections according to specifications. Complete winding retention, varnishing, or impregnation steps as required. Perform electrical inspections and tests using approved procedures and limits appropriate to each motor. Troubleshoot winding defects, shorts, open circuits, insulation failures, and connection problems. Work with engineering to resolve build issues and improve winding methods, fixtures, and work instructions. Document build details, repair findings, process changes, and test results. Train and mentor employees in winding techniques, workmanship, and inspection practices. Required Qualifications At least five years of hands-on electric motor or stator winding experience. Experience with new builds and motor repair or rewinding. Experience with both hand winding and machine winding. Relevant experience with small precision motors, fine magnet wire, and detailed winding work. Ability to independently complete winding jobs from drawings, winding data, and specifications. Experience inspecting, electrically testing, and troubleshooting motor windings. Ability to develop practical work methods and clearly explain them to others. Strong attention to detail, dependable attendance, and commitment to quality workmanship. Preferred Qualifications Experience with both brushed and brushless motors. Experience across motor sizes within the approximately 1-inch to 12-inch diameter range. Prototype development and short production runs. Winding machine programming, tooling selection, and fixture development. Previous lead winder or employee training responsibilities. A college degree is not required. Proven winding skill, technical judgment, and relevant experience are what matter.
