With over 70 years of experience crafting premium Award Jackets in Portland, we are looking for someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem solving, and learning how mechanical equipment works. Our knitting department produces the knit trim used for jacket hems, cuffs, and collars. Our knitting machines are traditional mechanical machines with no computerized components. This position will be responsible for operating and monitoring these machines, troubleshooting mechanical issues, assisting with maintenance and replacement of machine parts, finishing knit trim to production specifications, and managing raw material and finished trim inventory. Previous knitting experience is not required. We are willing to train someone who has strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Set up, operate, and monitor mechanical knitting machines Produce knit trim for jacket hems, cuffs, and collars according to production requirements Monitor knit quality and identify issues during production Troubleshoot basic mechanical problems with knitting machines Assist with machine maintenance, adjustments, and replacement of worn or damaged parts Measure, trim, and shape knitted material to the specifications required for each jacket Verify trim colors, sizes, quantities, and specifications before releasing materials to production Organize and maintain inventory of yarn and other raw materials Maintain inventory of finished knit trims produced both in-house and by outside vendors Receive and organize outsourced knit trims and verify quantities against production needs Maintain accurate inventory and production records Keep knitting machines and the surrounding work area clean and organized Follow all equipment and workplace safety procedures Communicate equipment, quality, material, or inventory issues to the Production Manager
REQUIREMENTS
Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in understanding how machinery works Comfortable troubleshooting mechanical equipment and working with machine components Strong attention to detail and quality Good hand-eye coordination Basic math and measuring skills Ability to follow written and verbal production instructions Ability to stay organized and maintain accurate inventory records Ability to perform repetitive work while maintaining consistency and accuracy Comfortable standing and working around manufacturing equipment for extended periods Reliable attendance and strong work ethic Willingness to learn and take feedback Previous experience with mechanical equipment, manufacturing, textiles, knitting, sewing, or apparel production is preferred but not required

WAGE:
$18.00/hour Performance-based wage increases begin after successful completion of the training and probationary period.
