Job Description

  • Job Title: Aircraft Structures Assembler
  • Job Description
  • This contract-to-hire role focuses on assembling, modifying, and installing aircraft components, sub-assemblies, and structural assemblies in a climate-controlled production environment.

You will work with basic sheet metal, composites, and complex assemblies while interpreting blueprints and following customer and quality requirements. The position offers consistent full-time hours with overtime opportunities and the chance to transition to a permanent role based on performance and business needs.

  • Responsibilities
  • + Assemble aircraft components, sub-assemblies, and structural assemblies in accordance with blueprints, specifications, work orders, and customer requirements.

+ Interpret and work from engineering blueprints and specifications to ensure assemblies meet all quality and dimensional requirements.

+ Complete required data gathering and documentation to accurately record assembly progress and process information.

+ Set up and operate various shop equipment, including drill presses, floor-mounted rivet presses, squeezes, and precision measuring tools, as well as drill motors and countersink cutters.

+ Perform basic sheet metal and composite fabrication tasks, including riveting, shimming, and complex assembly work on structures and spares.

+ Assemble major components of sub-assemblies, major assemblies, and smaller bench assemblies, including complex composite assemblies such as 787 frames.

+ Identify, report, and help resolve nonconforming parts, conditions, and manufacturing processes during assembly.

+ Troubleshoot issues that arise during assembly and actively look for and suggest process improvements.

+ Perform required rework and incorporate engineering changes during the assembly process while maintaining quality and safety standards.

+ Move, stage, and obtain correct parts, materials, tools, and assemblies to support efficient workflow.

+ Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete structural and composite assembly tasks.

+ Communicate verbally with team members and supervisors regarding work status, issues, and process changes.

+ Accurately write and record process information, including any deviations, rework, or changes performed.

+ Follow all safety procedures, including working safely around moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, and chemicals, and using required personal protective equipment.

+ Meet production schedules by effectively managing time, supporting overtime needs, and working assigned shifts, including potential weekend work.

  • Essential Skills
  • + High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Two to five years of complex assembly experience in an aerospace or similar manufacturing environment.

+ Two to five years of aircraft structures experience, including sheet metal and structural assembly.

+ Hands-on experience with basic sheet metal work, including riveting and structural assembly methods.

+ Ability to interpret and work from blueprints, specifications, and work orders.

+ Proficiency in using hand tools and precision measuring tools for assembly and inspection.

+ Experience with composite fabrication and composite material assembly.

+ Demonstrated ability to perform complex assemblies, including complex compound unique shimming and structures mechanic tasks.

+ Ability to identify nonconforming parts and conditions and follow appropriate processes to address them.

+ Strong time management skills to meet production deadlines and support overtime requirements.

+ Ability to communicate verbally regarding work processes and collaborate effectively with team members.

+ Ability to write and accurately record process information and assembly data.

+ Capability to regularly use hands and arms, stand, walk, and reach during the majority of the shift.

+ Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed for assembly tasks.

  • This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.
  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $25.

00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
