Job Title:
Mechanical Assembler Job Description This role involves assembling a wide variety of precision sheet metal products in a dynamic job shop environment, including components for medical, aerospace, electronic, and other specialized industries. You will use hand, power, air, and pneumatic tools to perform mechanical and light electro-mechanical assembly, read and follow blueprints and standard operating procedures, and ensure high-quality, tight-tolerance work while contributing to a fast-paced, safety-focused production team. Responsibilities Assemble a variety of precision sheet metal products for different industries, including medical, aerospace, and electronic applications. Rivet nuts and bolts onto sheet metal products using riveting guns, air tools, pneumatic tools, and drills. Read and interpret basic blueprints, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures to complete assemblies accurately. Perform basic low-voltage wiring and control panel assembly on products that require electrical connections. Use hand tools, power tools, air tools, and rivet tools to complete mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies. Work with tight-tolerance sheet metal components, maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail. Perform packaging, wrapping, and palletizing of finished products to prepare them for shipment. Measure and verify parts using tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure assemblies meet specifications. Follow production targets in a fast-paced, high-demand job shop environment and adjust to changing projects and products. Use soldering and basic electrical assembly techniques when required by specific products. Maintain a clean and organized work area, supporting the overall cleanliness and orderliness of the shop. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, actively contributing to a strong safety culture. Work effectively both as part of a team and independently, supporting coworkers and adapting to shifting priorities. Demonstrate reliable attendance, arriving early and prepared to work each scheduled shift. Essential Skills At least 1 year of mechanical or electro-mechanical assembly experience, which may include mechanical assembly, tire technician work, mechanic experience, construction, or similar hands-on roles. Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical components and assemblies. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints or assembly drawings. Experience using hand tools, power tools, air tools, and rivet tools in a production or mechanical environment. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more consistently throughout the shift. Strong attention to detail and ability to work with tight tolerances. Capability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment and meet specific volume and speed expectations. Ability to follow standard operating procedures and production instructions accurately. Reliable work history and a consistent track record of showing up on time and prepared for work. Flexible, team-first mindset with a willingness to adapt to different projects and tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Wiring experience, including basic low-voltage wiring and electrical assembly, is a strong plus. Experience working with sheet metal products in a manufacturing or job shop environment. Familiarity with schematic reading and basic electrical concepts. Experience with soldering for electrical or electronic assemblies. Experience in general labor, construction, or farm work that demonstrates strong mechanical skills and hands-on ability. Experience using tape measures and other measuring tools for precise layout and assembly. Comfort working with pneumatic tools, rivet guns, and various hand and power tools. Hobby or personal mechanical experience, such as automotive or equipment repair, that demonstrates mechanical aptitude. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Work Environment The role is based in a precision sheet metal job shop that operates in a fast-paced, high-demand environment where daily and weekly projects vary, requiring flexibility and adaptability. The facility is extremely clean, well-organized, and equipped with newer machines, offering one of the nicer sheet metal shop settings with a strong emphasis on safety. The shop is fully temperature-controlled, with air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter, ensuring a comfortable work environment. The position follows a Friday-Sunday schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and employees use a range of hand tools, power tools, air tools, pneumatic tools, rivet guns, and measuring equipment to perform their work. Dress expectations align with a production and fabrication environment, where practical, safety-oriented attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St Paul, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr.
