Lumedica, Inc., an emerging biomedical imaging start-up located in Downtown Durham, is at the forefront of developing and building affordable optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging systems for the research and ophthalmology sectors. We are actively seeking a skilled assembler with a keen interest and foundational understanding of photonics technology and manufacturing. As a pivotal member of our manufacturing team, you will play a crucial role in the assembly, testing, and resolution of technical issues related to our groundbreaking medical and industrial imaging devices.
Key Responsibilities:
As an Electronics/Optics Assembler at Lumedica, you will: Construct, fabricate, and deliver OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) imaging systems with precision and timeliness, upholding rigorous quality standards. Adhere to detailed instructions for the assembly of components into sub-assemblies, units, or complete systems. Skillfully assemble fiber optic and free space optical sub-assemblies and systems. Demonstrate proficiency in electrical wiring, cable routing, and adherence to quality standards. Employ proper handling techniques for delicate components, including compliance with ESD procedures. Collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to modify and rectify sub-assemblies and systems. Thoroughly assess sub-assemblies and finalized systems through testing protocols. Methodically document assembly and testing outcomes within the established quality framework. Embrace cross-training and flexibility across functional roles based on business and developmental needs.
Required Competencies:
To excel in this role, you should possess: A fundamental grasp of integrated systems encompassing mechanics, optics, and electronics. The ability to thrive within a collaborative small-team environment. Exceptional communication capabilities, both written and verbal.
Preferred Skills:
Candidates with expertise in the following areas will stand out: Proficient precision soldering skills. Capability to interpret and implement assembly drawings and blueprints. Aptitude for wiring and cable harnessing. Competence in PC (Windows) desktop operations. Experience in troubleshooting RMAs (Returns Merchandise Authorization) for photonic and electronic components.
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of a high school diploma; an associate degree in electronics and/or photonics is preferred. Prior experience within the medical device or analytical instruments sector is desirable. Familiarity with working in accordance with established quality systems. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
