Job Description

Position Summary The Electrical Assembly and Test Technician builds, wires, inspects, and tests electrical control systems used in Steelhead bottling and water treatment equipment. This hands-on position works from electrical schematics, panel layouts, bills of material, and engineering drawings to produce reliable, well-organized assemblies. The technician also supports machine checkout, troubleshooting, commissioning, and corrective work to ensure equipment is safe and ready for operation. Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, bills of material, and other technical drawings.
  • Build and wire electrical control panels, junction boxes, operator stations, machine enclosures, and cable assemblies according to approved drawings and workmanship standards.
  • Mount and connect components including circuit breakers, contactors, relays, power supplies, terminal blocks, variable frequency drives, PLC hardware, HMIs, sensors, motors, and safety devices.
  • Perform quality soldering and manufacture or repair wire and cable harnesses and basic circuit-card connections when required.
  • Verify completed work against schematics and drawings; identify discrepancies, missing information, and potential design or assembly issues before power-up.
  • Use a digital multimeter and other test equipment to check continuity, voltage, grounding, inputs, outputs, and component operation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and basic controls issues involving PLC inputs and outputs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, relays, motors, motion components, robots, and vision systems.
  • Document test results, corrections, wire changes, and redlines so engineering records accurately reflect the finished machine.
  • Assist engineering and service personnel with equipment commissioning, installation, startup, and customer support as assigned.
  • Perform electrical maintenance and repairs on in-house production equipment in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow applicable lockout tagout and electrical safety requirements. Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to read and work from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Hands-on experience assembling and wiring industrial electrical panels, machinery, automation equipment, or similar systems.
  • Proficiency with wire strippers, crimpers, soldering tools, torque tools, labeling equipment, and digital multimeters.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical components, control voltage, grounding, and safe troubleshooting practices.
  • Ability to trace circuits, isolate faults, and solve problems methodically with limited supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to neat, accurate, high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with production, engineering, service, and quality team members.
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, use ladders, and safely lift and move up to 50 pounds as required for equipment assembly. Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical certificate or associate degree in electrical technology, industrial maintenance, mechatronics, automation, or a related field.
  • Experience testing or commissioning automated machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic familiarity with PLC and HMI operation, I/O troubleshooting, VFD setup, industrial networks, or machine safety circuits.
  • Experience with UL 508A panel construction practices, NFPA 70E, or comparable industrial electrical standards.
  • Experience with stainless steel processing equipment, packaging machinery, robotics, water treatment equipment, or food and beverage equipment. What Success Looks Like
  • Panels and machine wiring are completed accurately, neatly, safely, and on schedule.
  • Electrical problems are identified early and resolved using disciplined testing rather than guesswork.
  • Machine test results and drawing redlines are complete, clear, and returned promptly to engineering.
  • Production, engineering, service, and customers receive responsive support and practical solutions.
