Our projects demand a high level of craftsmanship, attention to detail, consistency, and pride in workmanship. We are looking for an experienced Finish Technician / Colorist to join our finishing team. This position is ideal for someone who has a strong understanding of wood, stains, paints, clear coats, and finishing processes and who takes pride in producing a consistently high-quality finished product. The right candidate will have an excellent eye for color and detail and will be comfortable developing, adjusting, and reproducing custom colors and finishes for high-end cabinetry. Responsibilities Color Development & Matching Develop custom stains, dyes, glazes, paints, and other finishes to match approved samples. Match colors accurately to physical samples, existing cabinetry, furniture, architectural elements, or client-approved standards. Understand how wood species, grain, cut, absorption, and preparation affect final color. Adjust color formulas to achieve consistent results across different wood species and components. Maintain accurate records of color formulas and finishing processes. Create and maintain control samples for custom finishes. Identify color variations and make appropriate adjustments before production continues. Work with management and project teams when color or finish approval is required. Develop custom stains, dyes, glazes, paints, and other finishes to match approved samples. Cabinet Finishing Prepare cabinet components and wood surfaces for finishing. Perform sanding, staining, wiping, spraying, glazing, toning, and clear-coat applications as required. Apply paints, stains, dyes, primers, sealers, topcoats, and specialty finishes. Produce consistent finishes across doors, drawer fronts, panels, cabinet parts, moldings, and other components. Follow established finishing schedules and product specifications. Inspect finished components for color, sheen, coverage, texture, defects, and overall appearance. Perform touch-ups, repairs, and finish corrections as necessary. Maintain consistency between individual components and complete cabinetry projects. Quality Control Inspect work throughout the finishing process rather than relying solely on final inspection. Identify defects such as color variation, blotching, uneven coverage, runs, sags, dry spray, orange peel, contamination, sanding marks, or improper sheen. Correct finishing issues before components move to the next stage of production. Maintain a high standard of workmanship consistent with Aspen Leaf Kitchens' quality expectations. Communicate quality concerns to the Finishing Lead or Production Manager. Shop Responsibilities Properly clean and maintain spray equipment, guns, hoses, pumps, and other finishing equipment. Maintain an organized and clean finishing area. Properly label and store finishing materials. Follow all safety procedures and manufacturer requirements for finishing products and equipment. Properly handle hazardous materials and dispose of waste according to company procedures. Monitor inventory of finishing materials and communicate material needs to management. Follow company procedures for mixing, labeling, storage, and documentation of finishing products. Requirements Experience finishing high-end custom cabinetry or furniture. Experience documenting and reproducing custom color formulas using spectrophotometers and fast fluid pigment dispensers Experience developing custom stains and colors. Experience with multiple wood species and veneers. Experience with spray equipment and professional finishing systems. Experience with Sherwin-Williams, Renner, Milesi, ICA, or similar professional finishing products. Experience with glazing, toning, distressing, antiquing, or other specialty finishing techniques. Knowledge of catalyzed finishes and professional wood-coating systems. Previous experience in cabinet finishing, furniture finishing, automotive finishing, woodworking, or a related field. Strong understanding of staining, painting, and clear-coat finishing processes. Excellent eye for color, tone, sheen, and consistency. Strong attention to detail. Ability to recognize finishing defects and determine how to correct them. Ability to follow detailed finishing schedules and specifications. Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a production team. Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
