Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a motivated, hard-working, and reliable Metal Shop Helper to join our production and fabrication team. In this entry-level role, you will work alongside experienced welders, machinists, and fabricators to support all stages of sheet metal and structural metal production. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong mechanical aptitude who wants to learn the metal fabrication trade through hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities Material Handling:
Load, unload, stage, and transport raw metal sheets, pipes, and finished goods safely across the shop floor.
Parts Preparation:
Assist with deburring, drilling, countersinking, and utilizing hand tools to clean up parts.
Surface Finishing:
Use grinders, random orbital sanders, and polishing equipment to smooth out welds and prepare surfaces for final finishing.
Machine Operation:
Safely operate or assist with saw cutting, bandsaws, and basic shop machinery under supervision.
Shop Maintenance:
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace by sweeping, clearing scrap metal, and putting away tools.
Shipping Support:
Package, crate, bundle, and strap finished metal products securely to prevent damage during transit.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work/training experience.
Aptitude:
Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine enjoyment of working with your hands
Physical Ability:
Able to lift heavy materials (up to [50] lbs) and stand, bend, or walk for extended periods.
Basic Skills:
Proficiency with foundational math (addition, subtraction, measurements) and the ability to accurately read a tape measure.
Instructions:
Demonstrated ability to closely follow written or verbal instructions and read standard shop travelers/blueprints.
Attributes:
Reliable, punctual, safety-conscious, and a collaborative team player.
Preferred:
Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, construction site, or vocational training is a major plus, but not required. Join us in shaping the future of manufacturing! Pay:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
