Composite Polishing Specialist (Experience Required) Shift Info Day Shift, 6 am to 6 pm Monday - Saturday Job Summary The Composite Auto Parts Polisher is responsible for refining, sanding, buffing, and finishing high-performance auto parts made from composite materials (such as carbon fiber, fiberglass, and Kevlar). This role requires fine attention to detail to achieve defect-free, high-gloss, or matte clear-coat surfaces ready for client delivery or final assembly.
Key Responsibilities Surface Preparation:
Inspect composite components for surface defects, pinholes, resin voids, or uneven weaves before starting the finishing process.
Sanding & Buffing:
Perform wet and dry multi-stage precision sanding (using grit ranges from 400 up to 3000+) to smooth body panels, aerodynamic components, and interior trim.
Polishing:
Utilize rotary and dual-action (DA) polishers with specialized compounding and finishing pastes to eliminate sanding scratches and restore optic clarity.
Clear Coat Refinement:
Color-sand and buff clear-coated carbon fiber parts to eliminate orange peel, runs, and dust nibs without cutting through the clear resin or weave layer.
Quality Control:
Conduct final inspections under high-intensity lighting to ensure parts meet precise gloss standards and customer specifications.
Tool & Workstation Maintenance:
Clean, maintain, and properly store buffing pads, sanding blocks, pneumatic tools, and respiratory safety gear. Keep detail area clean and free of airborne contaminants.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
1-3 years of experience in automotive detailing, paint correction, autobody work, or composite manufacturing.
Technical Knowledge:
Understanding of composite materials (carbon fiber epoxy systems), paint thickness, clear coats, and compound/pad pairing dynamics.
Skillset:
Proficiency with rotary buffers, dual-action polishers, pneumatic sanders, and hand-sanding techniques.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for long periods, perform repetitive arm/hand motions, and lift components weighing up to 50 lbs.
Safety Adherence:
Comfort wearing required PPE (P100 respirators, eye protection, earplugs, nitrile gloves) in a dust-heavy environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in high-end automotive restoration, motorsport fabrication, or aerospace composite finishing. Familiarity with gel-coat repairs, minor resin filling, or spot touch-ups.
