Position Summary Liberty Cast Products is a small, growing metal casting manufacturer in Sterling Heights, Michigan. We are looking for a dependable individual interested in learning a skilled manufacturing trade as a Metal Grinder / Finisher. This is a hands-on manufacturing position responsible for learning how to safely grind, clean, and finish aluminum, bronze, copper, and other non-ferrous metal castings to customer requirements. Previous foundry or metal grinding experience is not required. We are willing to train the right individual. The employee will receive structured on-the-job training and supervised hands-on experience to develop the skills necessary to become an independent metal casting finisher. Job Duties & Training The employee will be trained to: Safely operate hand grinders, pneumatic tools, saws, and other metal-finishing equipment. Remove gates, risers, fins, flash, and excess metal from castings. Grind and blend casting surfaces to the required finish and dimensions. Learn proper grinding techniques to avoid damaging or over-grinding castings. Identify different castings, alloys, job travelers, and production requirements. Inspect castings during finishing and recognize common casting defects or areas requiring additional review. Learn proper selection and use of grinding wheels, discs, carbide tools, saw blades, and other finishing consumables. Read basic job instructions and follow production routing requirements. Safely handle and move castings of various sizes and weights. Learn proper use of material-handling equipment and industrial trucks as assigned. Follow PPE, respirator, machine-safety, and other shop safety requirements. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Work independently while also supporting the production team. Qualifications We are looking for someone who: Is dependable and reports to work consistently and on time. Is willing to learn a skilled manufacturing trade. Is comfortable working with hand and power tools. Has good attention to detail. Can follow written and verbal instructions. Takes pride in producing quality work. Is able to work independently after training. Works well as part of a small manufacturing team. Previous manufacturing, construction, automotive, mechanical, grinding, welding, or other hands-on experience is helpful but not required. Physical & Work Environment This is a physical manufacturing position. The employee must be able to stand for extended periods, lift and move materials, safely operate power tools, and work in an industrial environment. The foundry environment can be loud, dirty, dusty, hot, and smoky. Required personal protective equipment will be provided. Employees must be able to properly wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when applicable. Training & Growth This position includes structured on-the-job training in metal casting finishing, grinding, inspection, material handling, equipment operation, and foundry safety. Our goal is to train the employee to progress from supervised basic finishing operations to independently completing casting finishing work while meeting Liberty Cast Products' safety and quality requirements.
