This role is responsible for preparing metal samples for laboratory testing and analysis. The ideal candidate is comfortable working hands-on with metal materials, operating shop equipment, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety in a fast-paced industrial environment. This position requires adaptability, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Key Responsibilities Prepare metal samples for laboratory testing using various hand and power tools. Cut, grind, machine, and finish metal samples to meet precise specifications. Maintain sample integrity and prevent cross-contamination. Accurately label and document samples, ensuring part number recognition and traceability. Perform basic measurements and calculations related to sample preparation. Inspect finished samples to ensure quality and compliance with company standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Adapt to changing priorities, sometimes multiple times per day, while maintaining accuracy and productivity. Follow all safety procedures. Required Qualifications Experience using basic hand and power tools. Familiarity with metalworking equipment such as belt sanders, grinders, and milling machines. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality samples. Basic math skills and strong number recognition, including part numbers. Problem-solving skills — able to determine how to process awkward or irregular metal pieces within given restrictions. Ability to adapt quickly to changing workflows. Willingness to work in a physically demanding and sometimes dirty environment while keeping work areas tidy. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical capability:
Lift and move 20 lbs. regularly Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a metal processing or manufacturing. Knowledge of alloy identification or metal testing processes.
