Job Description

Overview The Metal Finisher is primarily responsible for grinding, filing, or sanding surfaces of metal items or parts. Responsibilities Examines and feels surface of metal to detect defects such as dents, scratches, or breaks in metal. Removes dents, using hammer and dolly block, and fills uneven surface with molten solder. Smooths surface of item to specified finish, using handtools and powered tools. May polish metal surface, using powered polishing wheel or belt. Examines finished work pieces to verify conformance with specifications according to operator inspection sheet, quality control plans and/or customer notes using instruments such as gauges. Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations. Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Demonstrated detail orientation, self motivation skills and ability to multi-task Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measurement tools. Demonstrated competency in basic shop math. Previous experience with overhead crane use is desired. Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change. Work in an efficient and timely manner. Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently. Demonstrated detail orientation, self motivation skills and ability to multi-task.
