SUMMARY STATEMENT
Under supervision, prepare and cook meals for enrolled Head Start children and staff in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, local Public Health Services Environmental Health Division, and the Child and Adult Care Food Programs (CACFP) guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Coordinate with other kitchen staff to prepare high quality, high quantity count of nutritional food portions in accordance with CACFP requirements and the number of children/staff to be served. Follow standardized recipes and maintain proper control to ensure minimal food spoilage and waste; ensure the accuracy of the number of meals, snacks, milk, and other food items prepared for assigned centers. Consider and plan for special dietary needs and/or special occasions, and adhere to the meal service cycle menu developed by the Parents, Food Service Manager and Health & Safety Services Specialist, in compliance with CACFP guidelines. Order, receive, check, and immediate storage of food or related supply orders as per hazard Analysis of Critical control Points (HACCP) guidelines, Environmental Health regulations, and CACFP requirements. Submit food and equipment receipts on a weekly basis or as required; perform annual inventory on food and equipment and provide to the Food Services Manager. Load meals onto carrier cart and transport delivery to classrooms; transport meals by motor vehicle to centers without on-site kitchen production. Maintain safety and sanitary conditions for the kitchens, all food preparation areas, transport vehicles, storage area, and food service area, as required by local environmental health departments and the Head Start and CACFP programs; maintain proper safety logs for temperature and quality controls. Maintain safety of self and co-workers by following all safety procedures, including, but not limited to, oven mitts, cutting gloves, lifting belts, slip resistant shoes, sanitizer buckets, towels, mops, brooms, etc. Track and schedule preventive maintenance schedules and perform basic maintenance to kitchen equipment as needed or directed; submit repair requisitions to Food Service Manager in a timely manner. Participate in Health Department Inspection, and provide outcome to the Food Service Manager. Compile and submit paperwork to the Food Service Manager as required, menus, and action plans to correct and improve the food program, as necessary. Regular travel within WACOG service area, including overnight stays as needed; additional travel may be required. Maintain reliable and predictable attendance; work outside of standard business hours as needed. Utilize tact and discretion to maintain confidentiality of information and a positive image of WACOG. Perform other duties as necessary to carry out the administrative/ programmatic goals and objectives of WAGOG and/or department.

(KSAs) The individual who holds this position must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. The KSAs listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed for satisfactory performance.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and communicate regulations, recipes, and menus in English
  • Skill in accurately measuring and calculating quantities using fractions and decimals, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Knowledge of quality control practices and proper kitchen safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply a wide range of technical instructions and guidelines
  • Ability to work effectively and safely around children
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, with the ability to navigate relevant software programs and internet-based systems to enter data and produce required results
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED Three years commercial or institutional cooking experience; or, have the equivalent combination of experience and education Mohave County Only
