Agency Dept of Agriculture , Consumer Services Division Agriculture Consumer Service Job Classification Title Agricultural Technician II (S) Position Number 60012691 Grade NC02 About Us The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. Description of Work The Piedmont Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician II with growth potential for a fulfilling career in agriculture. Our mission is to serve as a platform for agricultural research to make farming more efficient, productive, and profitable, while maintaining a sound environment and providing consumers with safe and affordable products. This Agricultural Technician II position will support research efforts in the Dairy Unit. Our ideal candidate will have experience in animal husbandry activities and the ability to work safely around large animals. This position works second shift (12pm to 12am), rotating weekend and overtime work depending on station needs. Major functions of this position are:
  • Milking
  • Nutritional management
  • Pasture and forage management
  • Waste management
  • General facility and grounds maintenance This position will work closely with other research station staff, including the poultry and crops team, to meet daily demands of research protocols and to contribute to overall success of Research Station's goals
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range:
$31,200 - $49,000 General understanding of animal agriculture production. Ability to operate various tractors and equipment commonly used in a dairy farm environment. Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision as well as in a team-oriented environment. Ability to lift 50lbs routinely and perform all work in adverse weather conditions. Valid Driver's License Must possess the following at the time of application or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment: Public Pesticide Applicator License.
