Position Summary:
The Horticulture Technician is responsible for the cultivation and maintenance of the plant collections, landscapes, gardens, parks, and medians enjoyed by our guests throughout the Lincoln Children's Zoo. Essential Job Functions Assist Curator of Horticulture in daily tasks. Plant, water, mow, fertilize, propagate, prune, groom, and maintain a wide variety of plants and landscapes. Monitor plants for pests, diseases, and growing conditions. Maintain horticultural records throughout the grounds. Assist with the design, installation, and care of gardens, planters, exhibits, etc. Safely operate and maintain horticultural tools, equipment, and motorized vehicles. Collaborate with staff, department heads, and volunteers in plant care, maintenance, and display work. Assist with volunteer projects and supervision. Coordinate with animal care staff on protocol for animal exhibits and maintenance schedules. Assist with take-down and storage of Zoo Lights. Assist with the care of ornamental koi fish and ponds. Apply pond treatments, feeding, spring clean-outs, and filter maintenance. Partner with Facilities Team for snow removal. Preferred Talents Possess and strong work ethic and positive attitude. Willingness to be a team player. Proficient in operating lawn mowing equipment and landscape machinery. Ability to work independently and be self-directed. Ability to perform strenuous labor in all inclement weather. Engaging and welcoming communication skills. Qualifications Degree in Horticulture, or related field, preferred. 2 or more years experience in a horticulture-related field. Pesticide applicators license or willingness to obtain. Valid driver's license.
Pay:
Up to $20.00 per hour Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
