Torrance, CA Job Details Full-time $22 - $27 an hour 2 hours ago Qualifications Power tools for woodworking Full Job Description RH is seeking a skilled and creative Wood Distress Prepping Specialist to join our Dennis & Leen/Formations Workshop in Torrance, CA. This role plays a key part in preparing wood furniture for finishing by applying traditional distressing techniques that replicate the natural character and timeless beauty of aged furniture. The Wood Distress Prepping Specialist combines artistry, technical skill, and an understanding of wood behavior to create authentic textures that reflect our heritage of craftsmanship and design.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply distressing techniques to wood furniture to simulate age, wear, and historical character Use hand and impact tools such as wire brushes, chisels, sandpaper, and carving tools to create authentic wear patterns Collaborate with finishers to ensure distressing complements the final finish and design intent Evaluate wood surfaces and select appropriate distressing methods based on design specifications and wood type Maintain consistency in distressing across multiple pieces while preserving the individuality of each creation Prepare and clean distressed surfaces for finishing, ensuring proper adhesion and surface quality Maintain tools, materials, and documentation to ensure consistency and craftsmanship standards are met
OUR REQUIREMENTS
1+ year of experience in furniture distressing, woodworking, or finishing preparation Proficiency in distressing methods such as dry brushing, edge wear, gouging, and burnishing Skilled in using hand and impact tools for controlled distressing Strong understanding of wood grain, hardness, and how different species respond to aging and finishing techniques Attention to detail, artistry, and historical authenticity in distressing patterns Familiarity with antique-style furniture and traditional finishing aesthetics preferred Experience in high-end or custom furniture production preferred Background in restoration or decorative arts preferred Portfolio or examples of previous distressing or finishing work preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
