We are seeking a skilled Furniture Refinisher and Restoration Specialist to perform furniture repairs, refinishing, and restoration work on an as-needed basis. Although the position is project-based, we expect work to be available fairly regularly. This opportunity is perfect for an experienced craftsperson looking for flexible part-time work or a semi-retired professional who would like to continue using their skills without committing to a full-time schedule. We have a dedicated workshop stocked with tools, equipment, and necessary supplies. We will provide everything needed to complete assigned projects, so applicants are not expected to furnish their own workshop or purchase materials. The ideal candidate will have experience working with antique, vintage, and high-quality furniture and will understand how to restore pieces while preserving their original appearance and character. Candidates should also be capable of repairing furniture and decorative items made from materials other than wood, including scratches, scuffs, dents, finish damage, and minor damage to metal surfaces.
Responsibilities:
Repair and restore antique, vintage, and modern furniture Strip, sand, stain, paint, seal, and refinish wood surfaces Match existing stains, finishes, paints, and colors Repair scratches, chips, dents, cracks, loose joints, and other damage Perform touch-ups and cosmetic repairs on wood, metal, and other furniture materials Evaluate damaged items and recommend appropriate repair methods Provide written estimates, including anticipated labor and materials, before beginning work Take clear before-and-after photographs of completed projects Maintain a clean and organized workshop Properly care for company-provided tools and equipment Complete projects carefully and within the agreed-upon timeframe
Qualifications:
Professional experience in furniture repair, refinishing, or restoration Demonstrated experience working with antique furniture Knowledge of wood types, stains, finishes, paints, adhesives, and repair techniques Ability to perform detailed finish matching and touch-up work Experience repairing scratches and surface damage on metal and other materials is strongly preferred Ability to work independently and communicate clearly about project needs and timelines Reliable transportation and dependable availability Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship No personal workshop or specialized tool collection required
Portfolio Requirement:
Applicants must provide a portfolio, photographs, or other examples of furniture and items they have repaired, refinished, or restored. Before-and-after photographs are preferred.
