Job Description

Art Handling/Logistics Description Gander & White Shipping, established in 1933, is recognized as a leader in the fine art and antiques shipping industry in North America and Europe. With over 90 years of experience, we are one of the most trusted companies by auction houses, galleries, museums, and private collectors worldwide. Gander & White is currently seeking a Property Handler to join our team at our new facility in Commack, NY . The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a busy, high-activity environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Property Handler is the safe and proper handling, packing, storage, and preparation for transport of artworks and design objects, including paintings, works on paper, sculpture, antiques, and modern and high-end furniture. The Property Handler will assist with domestic and international road and sea freight shipments and will occasionally interact directly with clients. This position is primarily based at our Commack, NY warehouse and reports to the Warehouse Manager .
RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow company policies and industry best practices for the safe handling, movement, storage, and loading of a wide range of art and design objects. Work with Team Leaders and team members on the installation and de-installation of artwork, antiques, high-end furniture, and other objects. Complete the daily warehouse schedule, including receiving and releasing property, warehouse movements, loading and unloading road and sea freight shipments, and inspecting and condition reporting items as directed by the Warehouse Manager. Accurately complete paperwork using our computer systems and ensure that all items, packages, and crates are properly labeled with the correct item and location information. Set up, install, and take down property for client viewings as directed by a supervisor or client. Communicate concerns, issues, or problems regarding condition reports, packing and crating requirements, schedules, and deadlines to management and account holders. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in the warehouse and on company trucks and vehicles. Interact with clients in a respectful and professional manner while maintaining confidentiality of client property and personal information. Maintain warehouse inventory and support daily operations using customized Gander & White software.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong work ethic and positive attitude. Minimum 2 years of experience as an art handler in a gallery, warehouse, museum, shipping company, or similar environment. Ability to learn and apply safe and efficient methods for handling, moving, packing, unpacking, loading, and unloading sensitive and valuable artworks, design objects, and furniture. Ability to work well as part of a diverse team in a fast-paced and changing environment. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and as part of a team. Ability to learn a variety of art handling, packing, storage, and shipping techniques. Ability to learn art installation and de-installation techniques. Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds. Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and organization. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel are required. Experience with ERP or CSM systems is an advantage.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to safely lift at least 50 pounds as part of daily activities, as well as the ability to work for extended periods while standing, bending, lifting, and carrying.
