Shop math Industrial equipment troubleshooting Grinding Production troubleshooting Full Job Description We are seeking an experienced Conventional (Sinker) EDM Operator with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, operating, and maintaining RAM/Sinker EDM machinery to produce complex, high-precision components and tooling for demanding applications.
Key Responsibilities Machine Operation & Setup:
Perform complex setups, select tooling, align workpieces, and set up electrode systems on Conventional/Sinker EDM equipment.
Blueprints & Specs:
Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, 3D models, prints, and GD&T specifications to maintain tight tolerances (often down to .0002").
Electrode Prep & Inspection:
Fabricate, dress, inspect, and qualify graphite and copper tungsten electrodes.
Process Optimization:
Determine optimal burn parameters, spark gaps, machine speeds, dielectric flushing, and duty cycles for alloys and tool steels.
Quality Control:
Conduct in-process visual and dimensional inspections using optical comparators, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM equipment to ensure zero-defect output.
Maintenance & Safety:
Perform routine preventative maintenance on EDM machines and dielectric filtration systems while maintaining a clean, safe work area.
Required Qualifications Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of proven experience operating Conventional / Sinker EDM machines in a precision job shop, aerospace, or mold/die environment.
Technical Skills:
Strong background in blueprint reading, GD&T, bench inspection, and electrode preparation.
Machining Math:
Sound understanding of shop math, geometry, and trigonometry.
Precision Focus:
Proven ability to work comfortably with tight-tolerance prototype and production components.
Troubleshooting:
Ability to diagnose cut issues, improper flushing, or surface finish problems and adjust parameters independently. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Mitsubishi & Sodick or similar CNC Sinker EDM controls. Dual experience with Wire EDM or CNC Milling/Jig Grinding would be a plus. Experience working in an ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality environment.
