Full Job Description SUMMARY:

Responsible for setting up and adjusting various sizes of dies into stamping presses to insure parts are produced within specification.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Sets up and adjusts progressive and single hit dies according to the Set Up Sheets. Performs first hit and submits for quality approval.
• Shuts down all jobs at the end of run and return dies to the proper storage location.
• Loads coils of sheet metal onto the presses.
• Loads stamping dies onto the presses.
• Inspects products for quality assurance.
• Utilizes precision measuring tools, such as micrometers and calipers, to ensure products are made to specification.
• Works closely with Tool and Die Makers by providing information needed to accurately diagnose and repair dies.
• Performs routine maintenance such as cleaning, oiling, and lubricating machines.
• Monitors and notifies supervisors of machine wear and/or damage for preventative maintenance.
• Communicates with prior and incoming shift supervisor for die set list or change overs.
• Participates in continuous improvement and assist in its implementation on an ongoing basis.
• Assists operators as needed.
• Operates forklifts and tow motors safely.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area.
• Performs all other duties assigned.

• Education and Experience
• High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate). Two years of previous die setting, or metal stamping experience required. Completion of an apprenticeship or training program. Prior operation of forklift /tow motor experience required.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standard operating procedures, blueprints, and work instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is to remain in a stationary position for 60 percent of the time while operating machines on the shop floor. They constantly operate motorized equipment and machines. The individual needs to frequently move about on the shop floor to transport parts, access tools, equipment, parts, and other necessary items to complete the work order. The individual frequently positions self to inspect parts. They use the hands continuously while performing all job duties. Most of the activities involve fine and gross manipulation of items. They must be able to exchange accurate information with other individuals in the office and shop. Must be able to detect part defects from short distances to determine what action needs to be taken. They must regularly push, pull, and/or move up to 60 pounds. The individual must be capable of carrying and loading different parts and tools required to complete the job.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment. Due to the risk of electrical hazards while installing or servicing, additional personal protective equipment and procedures may need to be followed. Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment as situations dictate on various job and construction sites. Due to exposure of machinery and electrical currents, employees are required to wear personal protective equipment such as eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and steel toe boots. During warmer months, the required personal protective equipment may cause the employee to be very warm while working. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment.
