Job Description

Knife Grinder & Finishers (Hafters) Alcoa, TN 1st Shift - $20.50/hr Highly reputable knife manufacturer is expanding to the Alcoa area! They are looking for solid associates who like to work with their hands, have a high attention to detail, and don't mind getting dirty! Maintain a safe and compliant work environment at all times. Perform a range of hafting (shaping) operations on knives, including but not limited to:
Color Backs:
Sand backs and ends to remove die tear and grind lines.
Hard Buffing:
Remove sharp edges from bolsters and blend cut edges.
Turn Bolsters:
Remove nail heads and shape bolsters to specification.
Turn and Color Covers:
Blend bolsters with covers to achieve the desired finished appearance.
Cut Slopes/Edges/Fronts:
Shape knives to ensure user comfort and functionality.
Grease Buffing:
Remove remaining grind lines from hafted knives. Perform sandpaper and belt changes as required to maintain equipment performance. Perform buffing wheel changes and properly break in or rake new buffs as needed. Apply grease buff compounds appropriately to sanding materials. Inspect products to ensure quality standards are met, conducting inspections before, during, and after the hafting process. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area throughout production and upon completion of tasks.
Physical Requirements:
Standing:
As required by operation.
Sitting:
Able to sit for extended periods in front of equipment.
Moving:
Normal, able to move throughout the department as required by operation.
Lifting:
Minimal, up to 35 pounds. Lifting of trays containing knives, wheels and/or other components.
Pushing/Pulling:
As required by operation.
Visual Acuity:
Normal and/or corrected vision for inspection of work /components.
Bending/Stooping:
Normal, minimal.
Hand Action:
Some processes require gripping, turning, pushing with fingertips.
Repetitive Motion:
Some processes require wrist motion, pressure, and exposure to vibration. #nowhiring
