Full Job Description Job Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Tool and cutter Grinder to join our skilled manufacturing team. This position involves precision grinding of high-speed steel (HSS) and carbide rods to produce custom cutting tools. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, basic math skills, and aptitude for hands on approach to learning in an industrial environment. We operate both manually operated, and CNC machinery in an environmentally controlled shop. Our team members use diamond, CBN and standard grit grinding wheels to product extremely tight tolerance cutting tools for a variety of industries. Medical, firearms, aerospace and power generation are just some of the fields we service.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Tool Grinding & Fabrication:
Set up and operate surface, OD, ID, and tool & cutter grinders (manual or CNC) Grind HSS and carbide materials into custom cutting tools (reamers, drills, end mills, etc.) Perform inspections using micrometers, calipers, comparators, and gauges Read and interpret blueprints, CAD prints, and geometric tolerancing Maintain tight tolerances and quality standards for cutting tool geometry
Maintenance & Efficiency:
Perform routine maintenance on grinding equipment Keep accurate records of tool specs and grinding parameters Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace Assist with tool regrinding, reconditioning, and coating preparation when needed
Team Collaboration:
Communicate with engineers, machinists, and production staff to ensure tooling meets specifications Track job progress and follow work orders in a timely, efficient manner
Experience & Qualifications:
Prior experience grinding HSS or carbide tools is preferred, but we train cutting tool grinding as well as we do it. Basic understanding of shop math and geometry Familiarity with tool grinding machines, measuring tools, and manual machine shop equipment would be an advantage, but not necessary. Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills Ability to read engineered drawings as well as hand drawn sketches .
