Job Description

We're seeking a motivated Lab Pack Chemist to support environmental compliance and monitoring activities across industrial and operational facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level environmental professional who enjoys a balance of fieldwork, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with operations and management teams. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with environmental monitoring, inspections, and reporting, along with a strong understanding of federal and state environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive hazardous waste from Fort Drum personnel and complete all required receipt documentation. Verify hazardous waste containers are properly closed, labeled, and stored in compliance with applicable regulations. Segregate, package, consolidate, and prepare batteries for shipment in accordance with DOT requirements. Decant and consolidate waste streams including paints, oils, fuels, antifreeze, and other approved non-regulated liquids. Weigh, label, and prepare hazardous waste containers for storage and transportation. Evaluate, process, and dispose of aerosol cans using approved puncturing and depressurization equipment while maintaining safe work practices. Inspect, filter, test, and recycle used antifreeze, including performing quality testing, maintaining recycling records, preparing laboratory samples, and coordinating distribution of approved recycled product. Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to safely transport hazardous waste containers and materials throughout the facility. Answer the Fort Drum "You Call, We Haul" service line, schedule waste pickups and drop-offs, respond to customer inquiries, and maintain accurate service records. Maintain hazardous waste storage areas, operate floor scrubbers and sweepers, perform routine housekeeping, and assist with cleanup of government-generated spills up to 55 gallons. Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, Tyvek suits, and hearing protection, while following all environmental, health, and safety procedures.
Qualifications:
OSHA 40-Hour
HAZWOPER
certification preferred. Experience handling hazardous waste, hazardous materials, or environmental field operations. Working knowledge of EPA regulations, DOT hazardous materials requirements, hazardous waste labeling, container management, and waste handling procedures. Ability to safely wear respiratory protection and other required PPE for extended periods. Ability to lift, move, and handle drums, containers, and other materials in an industrial environment. Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate documentation and regulatory records. Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently while maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant work environment.
Pay Range:
