Job Summary We're looking for a personable, detail-oriented Precious Metals Buyer to join our team. In this role, you'll evaluate and purchase gold, silver, coins, jewelry, and other valuables from customers, using testing equipment and market pricing to make accurate, fair offers. This is a customer-facing sales role that also requires strong analytical and negotiation skills. Commissions can be earned daily. Responsibilities Greet customers and assess items they wish to sell (gold, silver, platinum, jewelry, coins, watches, etc.) Test and verify precious metal purity using acid tests, electronic testers, and XRF analyzers Weigh items and calculate offers based on current spot market prices Negotiate purchase prices with customers in a professional, courteous manner Accurately complete all required transaction paperwork and compliance documentation Maintain knowledge of daily/current gold, silver, and platinum spot prices Identify counterfeit or fraudulent items and follow store protocols for suspicious transactions Ensure compliance with all state and local regulations regarding secondhand precious metal dealers, including reporting requirements Maintain accurate inventory and transaction records Provide excellent, professional customer service to build trust and repeat business Assist with display, merchandising, and general store operations as needed Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Previous experience in precious metals buying, jewelry, pawn, or retail sales strongly preferred Strong basic math skills (weights, percentages, pricing calculations) Comfortable using testing equipment (training provided) Excellent communication and negotiation skills High level of integrity and attention to detail Ability to pass a background check (required for precious metals dealer licensing/compliance) Must be at least 18 years of age Preferred Knowledge of gold/silver karat systems, hallmarks, and jewelry terminology Experience with point-of-sale (POS) and inventory systems Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
